Regional Development Program (RDP)
The Regional Development Program (RDP) is an Association delivered and SA Country supported development program that focuses on the skill and concept development of athletes aged 13 - 17 years old, and on the development and support of identified aspiring SA Country coaches.
The RDP serves to bridge the gap between Association and EADP athletes, increasing the level of athlete in our Associations thereby creating competitive tension for selection into EADP, SPP and State Teams as well as providing development and support to identified aspiring SA Country coaches.
Utilising their first hand knowledge and expertise of their athletes and unique basketball landscape, Associations have the autonomy to identify and select athletes to participate in the RDP that possess the desire and potential to be selected to SA Country programs in the future with on going targeted development, as well as provide additional support and development to already identified SA Country athletes from within their Association.
SA Country Basketball is committed to supporting our Associations in delivering a program that engages and extends this level of athlete through coach development and support and resource sharing, in turn strengthening Association teams, Junior Country Championships and improving the overall standard of athlete and coach in our region.
Objectives of the RDP
• Provide development opportunities for athletes that possess desire and potential for future SA Country selection.
• Support and continue to develop current SA Country athletes.
• Identify, mentor and support emerging and intermediate level coaches.
• To reinforce training habits and the key fundamental skills based on the 5-point skill package that underpin athlete development.
• To reinforce appropriate aspects of the SA Country Basketball Style of Play, player attributes and technical and tactical skills.
